Alberto and Alejandro Turrent, owners of Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A. de C.V., are the first family of Mexico’s cigar industry, with a legacy dating back to 1880. This father-son team not only produces some of Mexico’s finest cigars but also stands as the country’s largest grower of cigar tobacco. The San Andrés Maduro leaf they cultivate near Veracruz is world-renowned for its quality, and various tobaccos from their fields are key components in many of America’s most popular premium cigar brands.
To ensure the consistency of their flagship Casa Turrent line, Alejandro decided that a large factory was not the ideal setting for crafting the more complex Casa series. Instead, he renovated his great-grandfather’s house into a boutique factory staffed by just 15 people dedicated to producing the Casa Turrent Series.
Sonal visited the farms and factories in Veracruz and learnt about the cigars from the seeds to fermenting to blends and everything in between. It was an amazing experience to integrate with this great Cigar family and see their passion and dedication to their craft.
We personally believe that Casa Turrent offers some of the best price/quality cigars out there.
