Punch

Punch is one of the very oldest Havana brands. Don Manuel López of Juan Valle & Co founded it in the mid-19th Century with an eye to the booming British market where a humorous magazine of the same name was much in vogue.

A contented Mr Punch, the clown who personified the magazine, is still featured on every box, cigar in hand and surrounded by 19th Century images of cigar making that remain virtually unchanged over a century and a half later.

In 1931 Punch became associated with Hoyo de Monterrey and the two brands have been made at the same factory ever since. Today the factory is La Corona.

Punch’s distinct medium flavour is created with a blend of filler and binder tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo zone and all of the sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

The Range

Double Corona

A majestic Double Corona that is as close to an iconic size as you will find. It is made alongside Hoyo’s version of the same size at Havana’s La Corona factory, but with a distinctly different taste. Develops beautifully as you smoke it.

Punch Punch

The signature Corona Gorda size that has been a big player amongst heavy girth Havanas for five decades. You can depend upon it to deliver the vivacious notes that separate Cubans from the rest.

Short de Punch

This is first new addition to the brand’s standard portfolio for over 20 years and a fine example of the modern Havana cigar. It also displays the well-balanced and uncomplicated refinement that has made Punch such a popular brand in the UK for over 150 years.

Punch 48

Introduced in 2017 the second band on this cigar indicates they can only be found in La Casas del Habanos or Havana Cigar Specialists. A fraction shorter than the more famous Punch Punch, but with slightly more width. Well worth seeking out.

Coronation

An honest, medium bodied Mareva in a British racing green tube. An ideal accompaniment for outdoor pursuits – shooting and fishing expeditions for example.

Petit Coronation

A decent sized small cigar with a slightly rustic edge to it. Lively and rewarding wherever you choose to light it up.
