PARTAGÁS

Flavour profile: Full

If there is one building in Havana that excites cigar lovers above all others it is the old Partagás factory. You can find it at No. 520 Industria Street, just behind the Capitol building, in the heart of the city.

The factory was opened in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagás and was still operational until a few years ago. It is now closed with plans to transform it into a cigar museum well under way. The Partagás shop on the ground floor however, remains open and is well worth a visit.

A Partagás is immediately recognisable by its deep, earthy flavour. The character of its blend springs from a selection of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and chosen for their unmistakable richness of flavour and aroma.

Partagás come in a wide array of shapes and sizes notably the Lusitania and the 8-9-8, a cigar that is named after the way it is arranged in its box.

But perhaps the best known of all Partagás is the Serie D No.4, the Robusto size that formed part of the legendary Partagás alphabet series that dates back to the 1930s.

All sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

The Range

Lusitania

A star size if ever there was one. There are few sights in the cigar world to match a Cabinet Selection bundle of 50 Lusitanias. Happily they come in smaller quantities too.

8-9-8

A legendary Cuban size named after the way the cigars were presented in a box of twenty-five; eight in the top row, nine in the middle and eight on the bottom. Partagás has made this elegant size its own.

Presidente

A long standing feature of the Partagás range, this Double Figurado was only introduced in the UK market in 2017 and has quickly proved to be a welcomed addition. The shape lends itself to offering a variety of strengths and flavours during the life after ignition of one cigar.

Serie P No.2

A rich, earthy, full flavoured ‘torpedo’. This easy drawing, satisfying size was an instant success when Habanos S.A. introduced it in 2005. The P stands for Pirámide – its factory name.

Serie E No.2

2011 saw the addition of a new letter to the Partagás Alphabet Series. The E means the cigar has a ring gauge of 54. A big cigar in size and taste with attractive packaging improvements too.

Petit Corona Especiale

A slightly extra length Petit Corona that offers good value for money and a taste that is true to the Partagás brand.

Maduro No.1

Adorned with an additional band and dressed in a distinctive dark (maduro) wrapper the Maduro No.1 was an innovative extension to the range when it was released in 2015.

Maduro No.2

The shortest but also the widest of the three sizes in the Maduro series, this cigar also has the distinction of being the only figurado. A short but powerful cigar ideally suited as a digestif.

Maduro No.3

The dark wrappers that dress these cigars add a slight sweetness as a top note and help create an

innovative cigar of depth and character that remains true to the classic Partagás taste.

Serie D No.4

Many see this as the definitive Robusto. With its controlled, rich, complex taste and distinctive red and gold band, they have a good point. A pure-bred Havana and consistently the number one in volume terms to be exported from Cuba.

Serie D No.5

Following the success of a Limited Edition version of this size in 2008, the Serie D No.5 joined the ranks of Partagás’ standard sizes in 2011. Its tobacco leaves are selected and aged according to the normal criteria for the brand.

Serie D No.6

Although only 3 1⁄2” (90mm) long this cigar has all the hallmarks of the Partagás brand. It is as rich, earthy, peppery and powerful as you would expect from Havana’s most popular full flavoured cigar brand. The double expresso of the cigar world.

Short

One of the great small Havanas. It punches above its weight, so to speak, giving the impression of a larger size. Good after a meal or to take on your travels.

Capitols

This classic mareva size cigar was inspired by a popular machine-made version of the same name that was discontinued in the mid-1980's. This is handmade and presented in stylish retro tins of 5. They taste every bit as good as they look.
